"Live betting" or "in-game betting" is growing more and more popular, but what exactly is it?

As the names suggest, these are bets players can make after the contest has already started and reflect what has happened in the game so far.

These include many types of bets you can make before the game, including point spread, money line, and totals bets. Early on in the game, the listed odds tend not to be far from the pregame lines, but oddsmakers will adjust them accordingly as the game goes on.

Increasingly, sportsbooks are also offering other kinds of in-game bets that go beyond the game's result. These include wagers on the outcome of a quarter, possession, or even individual play or pitch.
